After a foggy start to Friday, a daily record high was reached at Long Island MacArthur Airport, the National Weather Service said.

The temperature hit 58 degrees just before 11 a.m., surpassing the previous daily high of 57 degrees in 2006, according to the service’s Upton office.

The service’s Upton office had extended a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m. for Nassau and Suffolk counties, but said warm conditions would continue once the fog lifts.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said daily record highs could be under threat through Monday. “Temperatures will stay above normal for the next seven to 10 days,” Hoffman said.

Hoffman said a cold front moves into the region on Monday, bringing a chance of rain, especially with evening thunderstorms.

“It will be cooler starting Tuesday of next week but temperatures will still be above normal,” Hoffman said.

Friday also offers southwest winds blowing up to 13 mph.

Nighttime conditions Friday call for clouds with some light fog. Overnight lows are in the mid 40s, Hoffman said.

Saturday is a mix of sun and clouds and unseasonably warm again. The forecast calls for daily highs in the low 60s; the record daily high is 60 in 2008.

Sunday’s forecast is for a mix of sun and clouds and a daily high in the mid 60s; the record is 60 degrees set in 1990.

Overnight, there’s a chance of rain, especially toward Monday morning.

Even with the rain, conditions stay warm; daily highs Monday are expected to be in the low 60s; the record daily high is 58 in 2001.
