A band of clouds dropping trace amounts of snow has passed, leaving partly cloudy skies and warming temperatures Sunday afternoon, according to meteorologists, and by midweek a warming trend could bring springlike temperatures as high as 65 degrees.

“We’ll see mainly dry conditions on Sunday with a low pressure moving offshore later in the day,” said John Murray, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Upton.

Murray said there would be some sun Sunday afternoon, with highs reaching the lower 40s.

“At night we’re looking at lows across Long Island of mostly in the upper 20s to lower 30s, with again Westhampton and also the Pine Barrens looking at the lower 20s.”

Mostly sunny skies will help start the workweek on Monday, when the high will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s for much of Long Island.

“There’s a warming trend that moves in on Monday, with high pressure heading south of the area,” Murray said. He said northern Nassau County could see temperatures of about 55 degrees and lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Murray said the normal average is highs in the mid-40s and lows in the upper 20s.

“It’ll feel like late April to early May,” said Matt Hammer, a meteorologist for News 12 Long Island. “We’ll go from chilly weather this weekend to a completely different season.”

On Tuesday, highs are expected to reach the mid- to upper 50s, with temperatures forecast to be warmer in northern Nassau County, where it might reach 60. It will be cooler on the Twin Forks, reaching the lower 50s. At night temperatures dip into the mid-40s.

It’ll feel more and more like spring by Wednesday, when highs will reach the upper 50s to lower 60s for much of Long Island, Murray said. “Out toward the immediate coastline it’ll be more in the mid-50s,” he added. Lows will be in the upper 40s.

“Areas that should see the upper 50s are eastern Suffolk County — western will be more in the lower 60s,” Murray said. “Nassau County will be in the lower 60s and a few spots in northern Nassau could hit 65.

“There’s the potential for records on Wednesday — we could break records for a high,” Murray said. He said the record for this time of year at Islip was set in 2000 when it was 64.

Lows Wednesday will be in the mid- to upper 40s, with parts of northern Nassau expected to reach lows in the 50s.

“Clouds will increase on Wednesday and into Wednesday night as well,” Murray said.

High temperatures will reach the mid-50s to lower 60s on Thursday, with mid-50s forecast for eastern Suffolk County, 50s to near 60 in western Suffolk, and Nassau the lower 60s.

“There’s a chance of showers the whole day — about a 30 percent chance,” Murray said. “It’s the same for Thursday, night when we’ll be in the lower 40s on average and there’s a 40 percent chance of rain.”

The chance of rain continues all day Friday, with the chance of showers at just 10 to 15 percent.

“We’ll have peeks of sunshine during the day on Friday,” Murray said, but things cool off and highs will reach only the upper 40s to lower 50s. There will still be a slight chance of showers at night for Nassau and extreme western Suffolk, he added. Lows are expected in the upper 30s to around 40.
