Long Island is in for a cold Wednesday, the National Weather Service said, a prelude to a Thanksgiving Day that will see temperatures climb.

Tuesday overnight, the actual temperature will be about 26 degrees but wind gusts of up to about 14 mph will make it feel like between 20 and 25, the weather service said.

Wednesday, winds will abate somewhat. But, despite sunshine, the high will just be about 44 degrees and wind chills will make it feel like between 20 and 30, forecasters said. Lows will be at the freezing mark Wednesday night.

In contrast, Thanksgiving on Thursday should be practically balmy, with a daytime high of 54 and lots of sunshine.

The only rain expected all week could arrive early Friday morning. There is a 60% chance of showers after 1 a.m. and similar chances for a shower before 1 p.m. that afternoon, the weather service said.

The weekend gets chilly again, with highs in the mid 40s but there will be abundant sunshine both days.
