Long Island weather: Rain, fog expected through Wednesday night

Wednesday works out to be a steady dose of showers and wet roads across Long Island, the National Weather Service said.
The service’s Upton office calls for a day of off-and-on rainfall and widespread fog, with precipitation expected to linger through Thursday morning.
Daily highs Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 50s with northeast winds of about 5 mph.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said there will be a mix of drizzle, showers and fog for the Christmas Tree Lighting in Manhattan and the annual lighting of the Big Duck in Flanders.
“Cloudy skies, some showers, drizzle and fog,” he said. “Temperatures in the lows 50s.”
By Wednesday night, a cold front passes Long Island from west to east, drying out conditions in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Hoffman said Thursday morning will be cloudy with a chance of showers, and then skies become “mostly sunny” with windy conditions in the afternoon.
Daily highs Thursday are in the low 50s, he said.
