Long Island gets a mostly sunny and warmer-than-normal Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

A week and a day into December, temperatures across Nassau and Suffolk counties will be near 50 degrees, the service’s Upton office said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the warm trend will continue through the weekend with record daily highs possible.

Hoffman called for a mix of sun and clouds developing in the afternoon Tuesday with breezy north-northeast winds up to 15 mph.

Highs Tuesday should be about 4 degrees warmer than normal for this period of December, Hoffman said. And Wednesday continues that trend, with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 50s.

There’s a chance for rain Thursday, but highs are in the low to mid 50s.

Friday is another mid 50s day, and daily highs Saturday threaten to reach 60, he said.
