The end of the workweek starts a stretch of sunny, mild December weather for Long Island.
The National Weather Service said a lingering high pressure system helps keep conditions reasonably mild for much of the weekend, including Friday, which gets sunshine, daily highs in the low 50s and a light west wind from 6 to 10 mph.
Those conditions stick around for Saturday and Sunday; both days are expected to be dry, clear and mostly sunny, with daily highs in the 50s, the service’s Upton office said.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said Friday calls for lots of sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures than normal for December. The normal average high is 47 degrees, he said.
Friday night is mostly clear and cold, with overnight lows in the low to mid 30s, Hoffman said.
Saturday is “sunny and nice” with daily highs near 50; overnight conditions are again clear and cold.
Sunday is mostly sunny, Hoffman said, with temperatures climbing in the low to upper 50s.
Clouds develop overnight, and Monday again features mostly dry, sunny conditions.
Showers enter the picture for Tuesday, which is expected to breezy and cloudy, Hoffman said.
