Long Island weather: Temps in 40s, with clearing skies

Temperatures a tad warmer than usual are in store for Long Island, including on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
A rainy morning gives way to mostly sunshine and daily highs in the lower 40s, the service’s Upton office said.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the warming trend for Nassau and Suffolk counties will gear up over the weekend, especially Sunday, when daily highs in the mid to upper 40s are likely.
Hoffman said the warm conditions could stretch to Thursday of next week; between Sunday and Thursday a daily high or two in the 50s is possible.
It will be slightly breezy on Wednesday with a west wind at 10 to 20 mph.
Overnight, skies remain clear but winds shift to the northwest and ease up at about 5 mph.
Lows in the 20s could create black ice during the Thursday morning commute, Hoffman said.
Thursday is expected to be sunny at the start with clouds moving in late in the day. Daily highs again are in the 40s, Hoffman said.
