Forecast: Mostly sunny Friday but more rain on way
Except for early risers, Long Islanders should be able to get through Friday without any rain gear, but they might be wise to keep the umbrellas handy for Saturday's weather.
The National Weather Service on Thursday evening said that on Friday there will be a 30% chance of showers before 7 a.m. with cloudy skies gradually becoming mostly sunny. The high temperature should be about 59 degrees — 9 degrees above the normal high for the date in Islip — and west winds are predicted to blow at 7 to 13 mph.
Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low temperature around 42 degrees.
Saturday there will be a slight chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. The chance of precipitation for Saturday is 50% and the expected high temperature about 52 degrees.
The weather service predicts that Sunday will kick off three days of mostly sunny and precipitation-free weather.
Come Wednesday, however, there is a 40% chance of rain and snow showers.
High temperatures during the first days of the new week will range from about 50 degrees on Wednesday to a blustery 37 degrees on Monday, according to the weather service.
