A break in the hot, steamy weather is expected for Long Island this week, starting Monday with a slight chance of showers and noticeably cooler temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
Monday will be dry with a chance for a drizzle in the morning across the southern and eastern portion of the Island, then clearing up for the rest of the day, weather service meteorologist Jay Engel said. Temperatures should stay in the 70s and be “fairly comfortable,” he said.
Humidity is expected to be low, and temperatures will be "unseasonably cool," and "refreshing to some people," said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Krystal Ellis.
Tuesday will likely bring an increase in humidity with increasing clouds and temperatures in the upper 70s near 80 degrees, Engel said.
The chance of rain showers will increase Tuesday evening, particularly in Nassau County, and linger into Wednesday with the risk of thunderstorms during the day as a Canadian air mass moves through, Ellis said.
Wednesday will be humid and temperatures could reach a high of 86 degrees, she said.
"Then Thursday we have an amazing beginning of a nice, dry stretch," Ellis said.
"Plenty of sunshine" is expected through Sunday, with low humidity and seasonable temperatures in the mid-80s, she said. "It’s going to be picture perfect days and nights."
