A New Cassel man was arrested on assault charges Tuesday night after allegedly stabbing a man on a Hicksville street, Nassau County police said.

Second Squad detectives said Ruben Amaya, 26, of 1083 Broadway, and another man started fighting at about 11:15 p.m. at 87 N. Broadway. Amaya pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the other man in the right armpit, police said.

The victim, 24, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was treated and released, police said.

Amaya is charged with assault and was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
