A 37-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot in the groin Thursday night outside a market on Straight Path in Wyandanch, police said.

Eugene Manago of Wyandanch was standing outside the Stop One Food Market about 8 p.m. when, Suffolk County police said, an unknown man fired what they called "a series of rounds," one of which struck Manago in the groin. The other bullets missed Manago and struck nearby residences. Police said no one else was injured.

Manago was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was in critical condition Friday, police said. Police are asking anyone with information to contact First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
