South Shore waters continue to be at small-craft advisory levels Tuesday, with waves 4 to 6 feet and southwest winds gusting to 25 knots, the National Weather Service said in its marine forecast.

The advisory runs to Tuesday night for Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet.

"Winds and seas subside overnight and remain on the lighter side during Wednesday as a high-pressure ridge passes through," the service's Upton office said. "Southerly sea breezes should then develop for the nearshore waters" Wednesday afternoon.

Beachgoers Tuesday also should be aware of a high risk for rip currents at South Shore beaches, the service said.

Inland weather for Nassau and Suffolk counties Tuesday calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially before noon, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
