A small craft advisory is in effect for Long Island's ocean waters until Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service said.

Ocean seas will gradually build to marginal small craft advisory levels during the afternoon and into the evening ahead of a cold front and continue through the night, the service's Upton office said in its marine forecast.

The advisory begins at noon and covers Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet.

A warm front will push northeast Wednesday morning, and a cold front will then move across during the night. Canadian high pressure will build across the area from Thursday into Friday.

During a particularly stormy Wednesday morning, the service issued a special marine warning for Long Island waters that ran until 7:30 a.m.

Inland conditions Wednesday call for warm, humid weather and the chance for showers and thunderstorms with highs in the low 80s.
