Mega Millions jackpot swells to $191M
Last Wednesday night, one lucky winner in Missouri - curses! - won the $258.5 million drawing for Powerball.
Can someone do the same Tuesday night in Mega Millions, where the jackpot has swelled to an eye-popping, mind-numbing, knee-bending $191 million after going 12 consecutive drawings without a winner since March 12?
On April 23, seven ticket holders - including one in Newburgh - came close.
Each of them had five numbers correct but missed the Mega Ball - and had to settle for $250,000.
The numbers were 19, 26, 28, 37, 52 and 18.
The last time the drawing was hit, just one player in Illinois had the winning combo: 2, 15, 25, 48, 53 and 41. The odds of hitting all five white balls - numbered 1-56 - and the yellow Mega Ball, which is numbered 1-46, is 1 in 175,711,536.
Since Mega Millions was last hit, the numbers 10 and 52 have each come up three times, while 3, 16, 28, 31, 39, 44, 47, 48 and 50 have each come up twice. The Mega Ball has twice been Number 13 or Number 25 since March 12. All other numbers have appeared once each since then.
Mega Millions is played in 38 states and Washington, D.C.
The cash value for any player lucky enough to win Tuesday night who chose a lump-sum payment instead of annual payments is $117.2 million. That's an awful lot of dough, any way you slice it.
