There is a moderate risk for rip current formation at Atlantic beaches in western Suffolk County on Friday, the National Weather Service said.

For other South Shore beaches, including New York City, "a low risk of rip current formation is expected," the service's Upton office said.

In its marine report, the service said winds from the northwest 10 to 15 knots will gradually diminish Friday as high pressure from the west builds over the area.

For most of the weekend, "a lack of a strong pressure gradient in the long term will mean winds should remain below small craft advisory criteria" through Sunday, the service said.
