More than 130 arrested on DWI charges over weekend

More than 130 motorists were arrested on drunken driving charges on Long Island over Labor Day weekend, law enforcement agencies reported Tuesday.

Nassau County police made 49 drunken driving arrests, and two boaters were arrested on boating while intoxicated charges. The arrests came between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

In Suffolk County, police made 56 drunken driving arrests and one for boating while intoxicated, a spokeswoman said.

State Police made 15 drunken driving arrests between Friday and Tuesday, a spokesman said.

Suffolk County sheriff's deputies made 11 arrests, including one involving a high-speed chase in Huntington on Saturday, according to a news release.

Robert Galletta, 42, was charged with unlawful fleeing, reckless driving, drunken driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, sheriffs said. Galletta led police on a pursuit at speeds of 100 mph, the sheriff's department said.

Galletta is scheduled to return to First District Court on Wednesday. With Ellen Yan
