A person was killed Friday night after being hit by a Long Island Rail Road train in Lynbrook, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokeswoman said.

The person was hit about 8:20 p.m., the spokeswoman said. The individual's name, age and gender were not immediately available.

The MTA spokeswoman said police were at the scene, investigating whether it was an accident or a suicide.

The LIRR is accommodating passengers who were delayed by the incident on other trains, she said.
