Sunday, July 28, 2014 will be unsettled, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms developing in the morning and lasting through the afternoon, said Nelson Vaz, meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Upton bureau. Credit: Weather Underground

The start of the week will be warm, muggy and wet, but don't worry -- relief in the form of dry, cooler weather will soon follow, the National Weather Service said in its latest forecast.

Sunday will be unsettled, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms developing in the morning and lasting through the afternoon, said Nelson Vaz, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau.

A second shot at showers and thunderstorms will come later in the evening Sunday, thanks to an "unusually strong system," Vaz said.

Highs on Sunday will be in the low 80s, adding to the humid, muggy feeling, with lows in the low 70s.

Monday also will be in the low 80s, with a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, Vaz said. Expect Sunday's mugginess to be largely a memory, though -- lows on Monday will drop into the low to mid 60s, he said.

The rest of the week, from Tuesday on through Friday, is expected to be dry, quiet, and even a little cooler than normal. Highs generally will be around 80, with lows in the low to mid-60s.

"Pretty comfortable for this time of year," Vaz said.
