Most LI beaches reopen after high bacteria counts subside

An advisory against swimming, issued Wednesday for 66 Suffolk County beaches, has been lifted for 64 of them, with the remaining two closed as a result of elevated bacteria levels, the county health department said Thursday.
Closed are Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach in Lloyd Harbor and Steers Beach in Northport.
The advisory had been issued in the wake of heavy rainfall that can lead to bacteria levels that exceed state standards, officials said.
Copiague Harbor Beach in Copiague, closed since May, has been reopened after samples showed water quality to be at an acceptable level, the health department said.
In Nassau County, three beaches remain closed to swimming due to bacteria levels: Biltmore and Philip Healey beaches in Massapequa and Morgan Beach in Glen Cove.
