Newsday won an Emmy Award Sunday night for its online video of two young professional motocross racers from Long Island who forged a close friendship after overcoming illness and personal tragedy.

The award was presented to Newsday Sunday night at the 56th Annual New York Emmy Awards in Manhattan. Newsday won in the human interest program feature category for "Young Racers Forge Bond."

Newsday director of multimedia Arnold Miller produced the winning entry. Deputy editor of multimedia Robert Cassidy edited the project and video editor Matthew Golub was the assistant editor. Multimedia producer Chris Ware was the videographer. The video was posted Feb. 2, 2012.

"I am very proud of our award-winning team whose strong visuals and editing told a very compelling story," said Debby Krenek, Newsday editorial director and senior vice president-digital.

Newsday received nine New York Emmy Awards nominations for videos posted to Newsday.com.

The nine nominated videos, created by a team of visual journalists, editors, producers and software developers, were posted on Newsday.com from September 2011 to August 2012, and cover subjects including silent movies, street painting and the Republican National Convention.
