Newsday wins two Deadline Club awards
Newsday won two awards last night at the Deadline Club in Manhattan.
Photographer Alejandra Villa won for a photograph of a 5-year-old Marisa Carney, a Bayport girl born with an extremely rare childhood brain disorder.
Newsday staff won for best mobile application.
The newspaper was a finalist in eight categories in what club officials said was one of the most competitive contests in the organization's history. There were nearly 440 entries from more than 70 media outlets in the New York metro area.
Debby Krenek, editorial director and senior vice president / digital media, said the recognition was a display of Newsday's level of talent.
"I am really proud of the winners and the all the finalists," Krenek said. "It just shows the power of the journalism at Newsday."
