A South Country Central School District faculty member suspected of contracting rubella, or German measles, has tested negative for the disease, officials said Wednesday.

Although the Bellport High School faculty member tested negative for rubella, Superintendent Joseph Giani said the district was waiting for test results before another possible victim would be declared disease free and allowed to return to school grounds.

"The district has been informed by the Suffolk County Department of Health that the first reported case has tested negative for Rubella," said Giani in a statement. "The individual has been cleared to return to work by their doctor and our district doctor."

Giani added that the remaining suspected victim was tested but that survey result was "indeterminate," but not a positive result.

"This individual is still out of the building and will remain so until fully cleared in consultation with their doctor(s) and our district doctor," he said.
