Cops: Two who stole car being charged are charged
A man who fell asleep while charging his electric car Saturday in the Smith Haven Mall parking lot in Lake Grove awoke to find a man searching his pockets, and was then robbed of the vehicle, police said.
The two suspects in the robbery were found an hour later at the 7-Eleven store at 2209 Middle Country Road, Centereach, and arrested, Suffolk County police said in a news release.
The man was awoken at about 2 p.m. while inside his Chevrolet Bolt sedan, police said. The two men demanded money, sprayed “an irritant” in the victim’s face and then forced the victim out of his car, police said. The suspects then fled in the vehicle.
Police later found Justin Frare, 32, of Bay Shore, sitting in the passenger seat of the stolen car, and Christopher Danielo, 32, of Farmingville, inside the 7-Eleven with the victim’s credit cards, police said.
They were arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree grand larceny.
They are scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
The victim is from Connecticut, a police spokeswoman said.
