Former NYC schools chancellor Nathan Quinones dies at 79
The man who led New York City's sprawling public school system in the mid-1980s has died.
Former Schools Chancellor Nathan Quinones died Saturday at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. He was 79.
Quinones died a week after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Quinones served as schools chancellor from 1984 to 1987. Before being appointed chancellor he headed the division of high schools.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters and three grandchildren.
New York City's public school system has about 1.1 million pupils. - AP
