Michael Mangham, LSU grid star, dies at 71
LAFAYETTE, La.- Michael "Mickey" Mangham, a former All-American right end who scored LSU's only touchdown for a win over Clemson in the 1959 Sugar Bowl, has died at the age of 71.
Mangham's daughter, Elizabeth, said her father died yesterday of a heart attack at his home in Lafayette.
Mangham lettered at LSU from 1958 to 1960 and helped lead the Tigers to a national championship. He scored the only touchdown in LSU's 7-0 win over Clemson in the 1959 Sugar Bowl, which culminated the 1958 championship season. Mangham caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Billy Cannon in the third quarter to provide the game-winning points.
Mangham's daughter says he also worked as an oil-and-gas attorney in the Acadiana, La., area until his death.- AP
