Wave heights Saturday on Long Island's ocean waters will cap out at about 4 feet, but overall conditions will miss small-craft advisory levels, the National Weather Service said in its marine forecast.

A northerly flow could reach gusts of 20 knots late Saturday morning and into the afternoon hours, and "some swells may build ocean seas close to 5 feet out East for a time toward evening," the service's Upton office said.

But winds mostly from northwest should stay below 20 knots and significantly lower for most areas, including Long Island Sound.

An incoming cold front and lingering high pressure should keep waters mainly calm until Monday, when a frontal system approaches, the service said.

Inland temperatures Saturday across Nassau and Suffolk counties are expected in the low to mid 70s, with light winds from the northeast and mostly sunny skies.
