LIRR service on three branches has resumed after power to the third rail was turned off Monday because of a brush fire in Carle Place, authorities said.

The fire started about 2:46 p.m. near where the Northern State Parkway and Meadowbrook State Parkway meet, state police said. The site is near the Long Island Rail Road's right of way by the Carle Place Station, an LIRR spokesman said.

Trains on the Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson and Montauk branches began running again shortly after 3:45 p.m., the railroad said.

Five eastbound trains and one westbound were delayed, from seven to 36 minutes, said LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena.
