A pedestrian was killed Wednesday after being struck by an SUV on Union Boulevard in East Islip, Suffolk police said.

The pedestrian, who was not identified by police, was crossing Union Boulevard "against the traffic light" at Irish Lane about 6:15 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound 2004 Jeep SUV, police said in a news release.

The victim was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The 60-year-old driver was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check; police said.

No further information was immediately available.
