Two pedestrians struck by vehicles on Long Island remained in critical condition Sunday, according to police in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

As Transito Sanchez, 54, walked west from Mastic Road to Herkimer Street in Mastic about 5 p.m. Saturday, Suffolk police said, he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The vehicle, possibly a dark-colored four-door Dodge Ram pickup, was seen going southbound on Mastic Road.

Sanchez of Mastic was assisted by bystanders and taken by the Mastic Ambulance Company to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said. Anyone with information can call the Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.

At about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Hempstead, a 2019 Ford cargo van struck an 81-year-old woman as she walked northbound on Bennet Avenue, crossing at Fulton Avenue, Nassau police said. The van hit the victim as it made a left from Bennet onto Fulton.

The driver remained at the scene and called 911. The identity of the victim was not available. She was taken to a hospital and remained in critical condition Sunday police said.

Nassau police are investigating the crash.
