Nassau and Suffolk police reported arresting 18 people Friday night and Saturday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated or related crimes.

Suffolk County Police said they arrested nine people during an overnight sobriety checkpoint at the start of the July Fourth weekend in the Port Jefferson Station area.

Police officers from the Suffolk County Highway Patrol Bureau, assisted by police officers from the State Police and Metropolitan Transportation Authority, conducted the checkpoint on Route 25A in Port Jefferson Station between 11:15 p.m. Friday and 3:15 a.m. Saturday. A total of 761 vehicles went through the checkpoint, police said.

Nassau County police said they arrested nine people for DWI or related charges between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday.
