Police in Nassau and Suffolk counties are warning that there will be stepped-up enforcement this Memorial Day weekend targeting people who drive vehicles or operate motorboats while intoxicated.

The enforcement will include checkpoints on roads and on the water, and increased patrols in certain areas, both counties said.

"We want everyone to make a smart and responsible decision not to drink and drive," Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said in a statement.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said the county "will be taking a zero-tolerance approach with those who drink and get behind the wheel."
