A suspicious piece of luggage that prompted police to evacuate a street in Patchogue was found to contain a fake metal grenade, Suffolk County police said Saturday.

The suitcase was found about 12:30 p.m. on East Main Street. Police said the package had contents "that looked suspicious" and businesses were evacuated as a precaution for at least four hours.

Police X-rayed the suitcase and found the grenade was fake, officials said.
