A motorist on Sunrise Highway was seriously injured Sunday night when her vehicle swerved, struck another vehicle and crashed into a tree in North Bellport, police said.

Both cars were traveling eastbound at 11:20 p.m. when the crash occurred, and all eastbound lanes near Station Road were closed for about five hours for an investigation, Suffolk County police said.

The driver of a 2007 Mazda veered to the left about one-half-mile past Station Road and hit a 2009 Toyota, which came to a stop in the grassy median, police said.

The Mazda driver was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said, and the driver of the Toyota was not injured.

The names of the drivers were not released.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
