1st C.D.: Both B'khaven town board members back Calone

The town of Brookhaven's two Democratic elected officials endorsed Suffolk Planning Commission chairman David Calone for his 2016 bid to take on Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), the campaign announced Monday.
Town councilwomen Valerie Cartright and Connie Kepert praised Calone, a Democrat and venture capitalist, for his work on environmental issues as Planning Commission chair. Calone is facing Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst for the Democratic nomination and both are racing to collect endorsements and money. Throne-Holst has been registered with the Independence Party.
Calone, in an interview, said, "It's exciting, the momentum we've been getting from people who know me and have worked with me."
Brookhaven voters make up more than 60 percent of the voters in the First Congressional District.
Calone has been endorsed by state Assemb. Steven Englebright (D-Setauket), Legis. Robert Calarco (D-Patchogue), Legis. Sarah Anker (D-Mt. Sinai) and Legis. Al Krupski (D-Cutchogue), as well as Brookhaven Town Democratic Committee chair Tony Parlatore.
