1st C.D.: Dems blast Zeldin's remarks on 'candid' Trump

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is lashing out at freshman GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin's positive remarks about Republican presidential contender Donald Trump, saying they show the Shirely lawmaker is "out of touch" with local voters.
Zeldin, according to the ABC News website, would not endorse Trump but said, "Americans want candid, brutally honest, sometimes politically incorrect leadership."
Jeb Fain, a spokesman for the DCCC, said: "Does Congressman Zeldin actually think Trump's repeatedly disparaging comments towards women, Hispanics and veterans actually qualifies as 'leadership'?"
Fain added that kind of speech may be what Zeldin is seeking in a presidential candidate, "but he couldn't be more out of touch with Long Islanders if he believes they want the same."
