Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst has picked up the backing of another Democratic big -- this time Rep. Joe Crowley, vice chair of the House Democratic caucus -- in her run for Congress.

Crowley called Throne-Holst a "terrific public servant" who has a "proven record of success" in her eight years as supervisor. "I know Anna will bring her passion, tenacity and committee to New York's hardworking families to Congress," Crowley said.

Throne-Holst is battling venture capitalist David Calone, county planning commission chair of Brookhaven, for the right to face freshman Rep. Lee Zeldin next year in the First District race.

Throne-Holst previously has been backed by Rep. Steve Israel, former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, and EMILYS List, as well as by prominent East End officials including Assemb. Fred Thiele and Judith Hope, former East Hampton supervisor and former state Democratic leader.

But critics say that Throne-Holst has failed to corral significant backing in Brookhaven, which makes up the largest part of the district.
