Lukas Ventouras

BACKGROUND:

  • Ventouras, 25, of Northport attends St. John’s School of Law and previously graduated in 2023 from New York University, majoring in history and minoring in broadcast journalism. He grew up in East Northport, attending schools in the Northport-East Northport district.
  • He has worked for local civil rights attorney Frederick Brewington of Hempstead and as a summer in the office of Rep. Grace Meng (D- Queens).
  • At NYU he served as president of the school’s chapter of Students Demand Action, the national gun violence prevention advocacy group. He also served as president of St. John’s chapter of the American Constitution Society.

ISSUES:

  • Ventouras said he will fight for more policies that empower workers over corporations. He said he will push for increasing the federal minimum wage, and implementing paid family leave and universal paid sick leave.
  • He is a supporter of universal healthcare and believes the country should implement a single-payer healthcare system in which one public agency acts as the administrator of healthcare. Ventouras said he would fight against cuts to and privatization of Medicare and Medicaid.
  • To address housing shortfalls and high housing costs on Long Island, Ventouras said he supports legislation that would ban private equity firms from buying up homes and also supports withholding federal funds from municipalities that pass restrictive building codes and zoning laws.
