Thomas Suozzi

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Suozzi, 63, is serving his fourth term in Congress. He served from 2017 to 2023, but opted not to run for re-election in 2022 to wage a losing bid for New York  governor. He was re-elected to his old seat in a February 2024 special election to replace expelled former Rep. George Santos.
  • He served as Nassau County executive from 2002 to 2009, and before that served eight years as mayor of Glen Cove.
  • Suozzi holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a law degree from Fordham University.

ISSUES:

  • Suozzi said his main priority is helping pass policies that lower the cost of gas, healthcare, food and utilities. He has sponsored legislation this past year to provide an up to $2,000 tax credit to families of newborns, and as co-chair of the bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus, released a 12-page framework of proposals designed to reduce consumer costs.
  • He said if re-elected he will continue working on environmental conservation efforts, noting his role in securing funding for clean water projects in his district,  including $12.3 million last January for sewage upgrades, water quality projects and police equipment.
  • On the issue of immigration, Suozzi said he supports securing the border while treating immigrants with dignity.
