43 applicants for New York medical marijuana program

Forty-three companies have applied to compete for five licenses to run New York's medical marijuana program, the state Health Department announced Tuesday.
The agency released the names of the companies but not a single other detail about the applicants -- not their proposed manufacturing locations nor their proposed dispensary locations.
The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System is one of the applicants, after striking a partnership with a Colorado cannabis operation.
Another Long Island-based company, PalliaTech Inc. in Sea Cliff, has applied for a license.
The state is expected to award five licenses in July; each winner would be able to run up to four dispensaries.
