4th C.D.: Blakeman debuts TV spot
Republican Bruce Blakeman is the first candidate in the 4th Congressional District to release a television ad – one in which he dons a T-shirt and stands next to a garbage truck while voicing his opposition to the Affordable Care Act.
Blakeman, 58, of Long Beach, is the Nassau GOP’s choice to succeed retiring Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola.) He will face New Hyde Park attorney Frank Scaturro in the June 24 Republican primary.
The 15-second spot, posted online on Wednesday, begins with Blakeman saying, “Obamacare is a tax on the middle class.
“People losing their jobs – and their choice of doctor,” he continues. “I’ll vote to repeal Obamacare, and replace it with a plan that works for everyone.”
Blakeman’s campaign said it spent $220,000 on the ad, which will run on various FIOS and Cablevision local networks through the primary. The statements in the spot mirror ones Blakeman made upon announcing his candidacy earlier this year.
At that event in his native Valley Stream, Blakeman avoided criticizing his potential opponents and focused on assailing national Democrats and issues such as the economy and the Affordable Care Act.
If Blakeman wins the primary, he will face the winner between Democrats Kathleen Rice, the Nassau district attorney, and Kevan Abrahams, the county legislative minority leader.
