4th CD: Odd Conservative line irregularity reported
Conservative party activist Pat Friedman, who is backing Frank Scaturro in his write-in campaign against Fran Becker for the Conservative Party nomination to run against Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), complains that her daughter, another registered Conservative, went to her polls in Franklin Square midmorning and was given a Republican ballot. Three times.
Each time, Friedman said, her daughter wrote in Scaturro’s name only to have her ballot rejected. Finally she looked at the top of the ballot and saw it was labeled Republican.
The Conservative party ballots, Friedman said, were then found, wrapped in cellophane, under a poll worker’s pocketbook.
Friedman said her “lawyer’s on it now.”
Republican elections commissioner Louis Savinetti could not immediately be reached for comment.
Scaturro is running against Becker for the Republican nomination, but there, his name is on the ballot.
