An ally of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to be confirmed this week as New York’s top judge, with the governor’s appointees now closing in on complete control of the state’s highest court.

The Senate is scheduled to weigh the nomination of Janet DiFiore, the Westchester County district attorney and former chairwoman of Cuomo’s ethics commission, as chief judge of the state Court of Appeals. She would be Cuomo’s fifth pick for the seven-member bench, with a sixth also coming this month.

Senate Judiciary chairman John Bonacic (R-Mount Hope) has questioned DiFiore’s independence, but the Senate hasn’t rejected a gubernatorial nominee for the court in recent memory.
