Albany watch: Place your bets on Belmont development
Belmont Park on Saturday hosted the third leg of horse racing's Triple Crown, but everyone is still waiting for the first leg of a Cuomo administration plan to develop the park.
It has been nearly two years since Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo solicited development bids -- one including a soccer stadium. It has been nine months since officials said a decision was weeks away, and two months since it was promised "soon."
The long delay sets up two scenarios, now that the gubernatorial race between Cuomo and Republican Rob Astorino is underway: A campaign-style announcement of a winning bid, or postponement until after the November election so as to not upset any competing Belmont factions.
