New Brookhaven Democratic chairman Marc Alessi is paid $4,000 a month for chairing Town Supervisor Mark Lesko's campaign. Alessi said this paid role will continue only through Election Day. Lesko is due to disclose the expense in campaign filings this week.

Republican Jesse Garcia, like Alessi, gets no salary as town leader. But he receives $126,000 a year as a GOP patronage appointee at the Suffolk Board of Elections. Alessi, who's also with the politically-connected Democratic Garden City law firm Jaspan, Schlesinger, said he receives a "minor stipend" for expenses as executive director of the Long Island Angel Network, a business-support group. -- Rick Brand
