 BACKGROUND: Archila, 43, of Brooklyn, is an activist and community organizer who moved to New York from Bogot&aacute;, Colombia, at 17. After graduating from Montclair State University, she worked at the Latin American Integration Center, a Queens-based community organization focused on immigration rights that was founded by her aunt, a former human rights attorney. Archila has led several progressive organizations, including Make the Road New York and the Center for Popular Democracy. Archila gained attention in 2018 when she confronted then-Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.)&nbsp;in an elevator before the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to approve Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.&nbsp; 
 ISSUES: Similar to her running mate, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Archila has focused on issues such as universal health care, gun control and proposed investment of&nbsp;billions of dollars to fight climate change. She also has backed expansion of an Excluded Worker Fund for immigrants who entered the country illegally and were affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. Archila has criticized the administration of Gov. Kathy Hochul for committing $600 million to build a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills. During a recent lieutenant governor debate, Archila said her administration would “expand the availability of housing instead of giving billions and billions of dollars to real estate developers to build a little bit of affordable housing and subsidize a lot of luxury housing.”
