Cuomo, Raul Castro meet at UN, talk economic ties

  Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo met with Cuban President Raul Castro at the United Nations to discuss economic development on Friday, five months after the New York Democrat traveled to Havana, a state official said.

  Castro had arrived in the U.S. a day earlier to attend the United Nations General Assembly, where Pope Francis spoke Friday. Cuomo, too, was in New York City attending events connected to the papal visit.

  Castro and Cuomo met in the early afternoon at the Cuban Permanent Mission to the UN. Cuomo was joined by Howard Zemsky, his top economic development official.

  Cuomo conducted a brief trade mission, covering parts of two days, to Cuba in April after President Barack Obama began re-establishing diplomatic ties with the island nation.
