Angela Ramos, wife of Assemb. Phil Ramos (D-Brentwood), has told Suffolk Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer she plans to move forward with a primary challenge against Suffolk County Legis. Monica Martinez.

Schaffer said he met for 45 minutes with Ramos and his wife a week ago where. Schaffer said he tried to discourage her candidacy, but she called him midweek to say she will proceed to gather petitions to wage a primary. “She said she had to do it for her community,” said Schaffer.

The party leader said he is “fully supporting” Martinez and “we will have all of the community working for Monica.”

Martinez (D-Brentwood), who was grand marshal of the Puerto Rican Day parade in Brentwood over the weekend, said she will “be running on my record of working for the community and bringing it together. I’m not about pomposity. I’m all about results, producing for the district.”
