REPUBLICAN
- Palumbo, 52, of New Suffolk, is making his sixth bid for office. He is seeking his second term in the State Senate, and he served from 2014 to 2021 in the Assembly. He also is running on the Conservative line.
- He is a former Suffolk County assistant district attorney.
- He graduated from Lafayette College and St. John’s University Law School.
- Palumbo said crime and people's safety remain a top concern, especially with an increase in catalytic converter and auto thefts. He supports giving law enforcement the tools it needs to keep the community safe, and repealing current bail laws, allowing judges to use discretion in setting bail.
- He said he will work to address taxes and the high cost of living and help businesses get back on their feet after the pandemic. It's time, he said, to focus on ideas that are better suited for suburban areas.
- Palumbo noted his work for affordable housing as co-sponsor of a state law to create an East End community housing fund fueled by a 0.5% increase in the real estate transfer tax. Residents in East Hampton, Southampton and Southold will vote in November on whether to establish such programs in their towns.
