BACKGROUND:

  • Delgado, 45, of Rhinebeck, is running for his first full term as lieutenant governor.
  • He was appointed to the post in May by Gov. Kathy Hochul after her former running mate, Brian Benjamin, who is fighting federal bribery charges, resigned.
  • Delgado has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019, representing the 19th District, which includes the Hudson Valley and the Catskills.
  • He was born and raised in Schenectady and attended Colgate University in Hamilton. He was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University and received a law degree from Harvard University. 

ISSUES:

  • Delgado said he took on pharmaceutical companies by voting to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and to cap the cost of insulin at $35. 
  • Delgado voted to protect the right to an abortion regardless of the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
  • Delgado has experience from serving on the agriculture, small business and transporation committees in Congress.
