BRIAN F. CURRAN

REPUBLICAN

BACKGROUND:

  • Curran, 53, of Lynbrook, is running for the seat he won four times before losing in 2018 to Democrat Judy Griffin, currently the incumbent. He is also on the Conservative line.
  • He works as the Nassau County public administrator, who handles estates without heirs and related issues. He has also worked as a private practice attorney and in the Nassau County Attorney’s Office.
  • His bachelor’s in history and political science is from Wilkes University and his law degree is from CUNY. He was the Lynbrook Village mayor from 2007 to 2010, when he stepped down to take his Assembly seat.

ISSUES:

  • He wants to reduce crime by eliminating cashless bail and generating more support for police.
  • Curran would focus on pandemic-related effects on students, saying longer school days or year may be needed as part of a comprehensive plan to help them reach standards before promoting them to the next grade.
  • He would get rid of the gas tax and repeal New York City’s congestive pricing plan, which he believes hurts Nassau and New Jersey residents disproportionately.
